ARBORETUM - BOTANICAL GARDEN

An Arboretum is a botanical garden containing living collections of woody plants intended for scientific study. We decided to visit the Arboretum just outside Ljubljana on a Sunday afternoon. It is situated on 85 hectares (210 acres) of land and features a beautiful rose garden and 3,500 plants from all over the world, seasonal flower exhibitions and lakes with water plants and marine life. Greenhouses feature cactus, orchid and tropical butterfly exhibits. It is a wonderfully relaxing way for families to enjoy a variety of exhibits staged on  a vast parkland. It also has a dinosaur park, an exhibition of whale sculptures, children's playground and a cafe serving ice cream and drinks. There is a pavilion with photos explaining the history of the Arboretum as well as the history of roses in English as well as Slovene. All of this and only a 25 minute drive from Ljubljana!

A trolley takes you on a 15 minute ride all around the gardens
